The primary purpose of the data collected through the NICU Database is to drive improvement in the care provided to vulnerable infants across California. This occurs through:
- A range of reports designed to help NICU care teams analyze their data and identify areas where they are performing well and areas which require improvement. For more about the NICU Reports, visit the NICU Reports page.
- Our quality improvement collaborative projects which are designed to help groups of 20-30 NICUs implement best practices that reduce variation in care and outcomes. Read more about our quality improvement projects.
- QI toolkits which describe best practices in perinatal care. NICUs are encouraged to review their data and then use these toolkits to address areas of low performance.
- Research projects which use the NICU data sets to investigate topics in quality improvement, disparities, and more.
